This setting is Boston and is set with gothic style showing the evil behind mentality. It shows the way pirates were during this time and how they influenced England. It was said that the evil spirit of the rebels was the devil. Also, them trying to run and take over meant that the devil was coming for us in a sense. This starts off the beginning of mysteries in England.
“Just as the earthquakes were prevalent in New England, and shook many sinners to their knees (Irving1)”. This quote shows in times in doubt or stress go toward God. They always seek security and relief. The people were overly protective and highly critical about things going on currently. The dim description of a chaotic and crisis in the town brings a different overview and look.
“Tom Walker, however was not a man to be troubled with any fears(Irving 1)”. This quote tells that he wasn’t frightened like everybody else. Also, that he was a very brave and less influenced man. He stood for his own and wasn’t a follower, but a leader and did as he persuade. This reveals a prime example of what one of the average citizens should portray.
“Oh, I go by various names. I am the Wild Huntsman….Black Woodsman (Irving1)”.This quote show this person he talks to is portrayed as the devil. This person shows that he has many names and ways to show his deceive ness to people.
