The Pit and The Pendulum

This story written by Edgar Allen Poe was used to show how the tension is during a trial. It tells it in 3rd person to elaborate the mind-boggling technique stress overwhelms you. The setting is descriptions of the surrounding of where he stands or positioned. Although, it places fear and anxiety in you to be hold what’s upon you.

“The sentence--the dread sentence of death (Poe 745)”. This quote shows to which extent his crime was and how his future will behold. Diction such as “dead” and “sentence” reveals he did an unexplanatory crime. Poe give suspense making us wonder giving us interrogatives such as what brought this crime and how acted first. This nice technique is displayed through this piece.

“I saw the lips of the black robed judges (Poe 745)”. This statement unveils the stress of which the defendant has. Words such as “lips” and “black robed” show how nervous the person is by paying close detail to unknown things. This is a sign of anxiety which upright takes over the person. When people become stressed or have uncertainty they tend to over exaggerate and tend more information than is given.

“I saw the decrees of what to me was Fate, were still issuing from those lips (Poe746)”. This quote revels the feelings going through the mind of the person. So, “Fate” Is that horrid future that he thinks will engulf him. “Lips” exaggerated and repeated of the speaker, which will tell his destiny with one word. He fear is now to a climax and settling with the worst being his outcome.
