Sinners in the Hands of God

Sinners in the Hands of Angry God
The sermon Sinners in The hands of an Angry Dog displays Jonathan Edwards hatred of sinning and the cruel effects of it. The purpose was to stop the noble Israelites who were so called the main sinners. In his view the sin was displayed in almost every aspect. He very detailed diction make the piece harsh spoken. He wrote this as a way to warm and persuade the Church of the upcoming.

“Slippery places is always exposed to fall (Edwards1)”.This quote states that the sinning if they continue to sin then they will reap major consequences. Also, that the diction “slippery places” means that the people have a narrower way to heaven and broader one to hell. His tone being frank shows his despise for sinners. He also, uses hyperboles to get his point (exposed).

“God will not hold them up in these slippery places any longer(Edwards1)”.This statement tells that the people are being held safe with the hands of God. Also, this shows how God only keeps you safe if your willing and obey his word.Edwards shows with his frank and argumentive tone that people should strive to live a holy lifestyle. This is why he has many repetitions to get through the serious reality of holiness and purity.

Edward unique technique of writing to persuade the people to convince people of the true way to live. His sermon is extremely deep and can be portrayed and different ways. He doesn’t take into consideration how everyone sins and has the opportunity to repent.Edwards will most likely push away his audience rather than draw them in.
