“The Story of An Hour”

This story by Kate Chopin is interesting showing how simple mistakes can make big interludes. It shows a woman who thinks her husbands dead discovers he’s alive. It brings suspense and mystery with her metaphors and similes. It brings discomfort and intrigue to all who read this.

“In bearing the sad message (Chopin1)”. This phrase shows that the intentions of doing so would be difficult. Also, that the guilt for having to send this message was burdening the heart. This in fact reveals that people have feelings: regret, sorrow, and disappointment.” Sad” plays the adjective of message showing it’s not a light situation its depressing and worth grieving.

“Facing the open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair (Chopin1)”. The phrase shows how her chair seems to be her main companion. Words such as “window” “comfortable” and “roomy” describing the armchair as comforting. It shows she tries to comfort herself also, by having solicitude. The author wants the reader to relate to the pathos of the character.

“Patches of blue sky showing here and there through the clouds (Chopin1)”. The quote shows depressing overflowing through joy. The character tries to overcome her pain by trying to think off subjects. Also, she shows how happiness can be found through all the issues. “Patches” means the sections of are emotions dispersed.

“Of the joy that kills (Chopin4)”. The character having heart problems couldn’t bare that much excitement. The phrase reveals that overbearing happiness such as knowing her husband’s alive can strike as deadly. Chopin’s detailed way of life brings shocking, suspense, sorrow, and sympathy towards the tale.
